Lanterns is a refined, accessible, and highly diverse theatrical concert performed by the American-Dutch pianist Shane van Neerden. The program is created in collaboration with composer Rick van Veldhuizen, video artist Frouke ten Velden, and theater director Jos van Kan. It involves a composition commissioned for two pianos: a traditional concert grand piano and a buffet piano tuned in an entirely new, pure temperament.

During the concert, the music is subtly enhanced by visual and textual projections, along with spoken texts. These spoken texts add an additional layer to the versatility of the concert. The texts will not appeal to the listener’s rationality but will guide them like a lantern, bringing them closer to the music.

From the jury report: “A true romantic and poet! With his incredible technique, impeccable timing, and storytelling, he captivates the audience’s attention. He is not afraid to take risks!”
